Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas, was raised in Charleston West Virginia. William John Garner is her father. He was a chemical engineers for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local university. In the hopes of following in her father's footsteps her graduation was an education in chemical engineering. She moved to New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. While appearing in Broadway shows, she was employed as a waitress. On the television series "Felicity," she had an appearance in a brief scene. (It is in this show that she met her husband Scott Foley. She got her big break in the action film "Alias." Her first leading role was the widely praised romantic comedy "13 going on thirty." She played a teenager who found herself stuck in the body of an older woman of 30. Garner picked Gary Winick, who directed the movie. Both Winick and Garner continued to work together in pursuing other projects even after the death of Winick. Garner was appointed artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. The role includes promoting national nutritional literacy, education and early learning. Garner was named to the board of directors of the non-profit in the year 2014. Garner advocates for early developmental stages of children. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits often with the families who belong to Early Steps to School Success the program which trains parents in how to assist youngsters in their learning.
