Young came back to Los Angeles where she landed roles such as Cathy Metsker, Mel Gibson Madeleine Stowe & Greg Kinnear's We Were Soldiers; and Rachel for JJ Abrams Mission Impossible: 3 with Tom Cruise & Keri russe. Other projects she has produced for herself include the Sundance hit The Freebie, starring Dax Hepard, as well as A Country Remedy (starring Joshua Leonard) that she directed at North Carolina. Once in LA Young has also embarked on a long & varied career on television appearing until now on more than forty shows, like Grey s Anatomy Private Practice 2 1/2 Men The West Wing ER Frasier Boston Legal Cold Case NCIS and Law & Order. Young's award-winning performance as Mellie the First Lady on Scandal on ABC and the forthcoming Zoe Cassavetes movie Day out of Days are currently being viewed. Young is currently working on an adult contemporary album that includes covers of Fleetwood Mac Tom Waits and Ryan Adams. On May 15 2015 Young released her debut album Far Away So Close on iTunes. She was in Megan Griffiths' crime drama The Night Stalker, about serial murderer Richard Ramirez. The following year she was in a second character alongside Jim Rash and David Koechner in independent comedy Bernard and Huey. In 2018 she co-starred in Disney Live Action's adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time along with Oprah Winfrey Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
